Foundry furnace burner as garage heater

I decided that the propane burner for my furnace would make a nice heat source for a forced air heater. In this video I am lighting it to see how much heat it puts out, I’d estimate in this video it was around 100000 BTU.

This video shows the “Direct to Air” Solar Heater Installation to capture Free Heat from the Sun. This system is an environmentally sustainable green heating solution that will lessen our dependence on fossil fuels and significantly reduce our greenhouse gas emissions. For anyone concerned about the environment or if you just want to save money on your heating bills. This is the “Free Fuel” heater – the cost of sunlight never goes up! Once you own the unit, the fuel is free. The system will last for decades providing free heat and environmental benefits. Regardless of what you call the system – solar panels, solar collectors, solar heaters or my favorite – the “Free Heat” Machine, you’ll have to agree that the planet needs these systems if we’re ever going to wean ourselves from fuels like natural gas, propane, heating oil, diesel and other fossil or carbon-based fuels. This system may not be the total solution, but it’s a step in the right direction. It’s affordable and compares to a high efficiency gas furnace in return on investment. That’s right solar heat is now also affordable heats and easily compares to the fossil fuels – even the “cheapest” fossil fuel right now – natural gas. The only difference is that with this solar heater, the price of your fuel never goes up. Solar heating has never been more affordable. Check out the video! Reduce your environmental footprint and go green!

1969 Airstream camper

My uncle’s pride and joy. He bought it from a relative a couple years ago and restored it. It sleeps 2 or 3 people, I forget, and it has a toilet, shower, sink, propane stove/oven, propane fridge, and propane furnace. It had air-conditioning that did not work well, so my uncle installed a new Carrier rooftop unit. The trailer was rough when he bought it, but still roadworthy, so he simply towed it home with his Dodge truck and restored it. It also used to have a built-in stereo system, but this no longer works, so music is handled by a AM/FM radio with cassette, that is styled to look like a 1932 wooden cathedral radio.

Completed Homemade Propane Forced Air Heater

This is the completed (as far as I plan on completing it) propane forced air heater. The fan is from a kitchen exhaust vent hood. The rest is just various pieces of 6″ and 8″ ductwork and 1/4 galvanized piping. The final piece to get the flame right was the polyurethane can in the back-center of the inner tube. In this run I estimate it to be putting out around 100000 BTU, but by reducing the amount of air bypass I can get it up to at least 200000 BTU, limited only by how much gas the 20 lb. cylinder will put out. For those interested I made a forum thread covering the process. backyardmetalcasting.com
